What is a Doula? Frequently asked questions.

Why Hire a Doula?

Whether this is your first baby or your fifth, giving birth is a powerful, life-changing experience - and you deserve to feel supported through all of it. As your doula, I’m here to walk alongside you with compassion, care, and confidence. I provide emotional, physical, and informational support during pregnancy, labor, postpartum, and even in times of loss. My goal? To help you feel more seen, heard, and empowered - no matter how your journey unfolds.

And guess what? The research backs this up.

Do you accept Medicaid/Apple Health?

Soon! I’ve applied and am waiting for approval. Washington State Medicaid/Apple Health does cover both birth and postpartum doula services, and I’m so excited to be part of that support system. Right now, private insurance in Washington doesn’t cover doula care (yet!) - but we’re hopeful that’ll change in the future.

What does a doula do?

Think of me as your grounding presence. I offer hands-on comfort, emotional support, and evidence-based info before, during, and after birth. I don’t come in with an agenda - I show up for you, however, your experience unfolds. Whether it’s breathing with you through contractions, holding space during a hard moment, or helping you make sense of all the choices - I'm there to walk with you, not lead for you.

Do you perform any physical examinations?

Nope! I’m not a doctor or midwife. I don’t do clinical tasks like cervical checks, diagnoses, or prescriptions. But I can help you prep for appointments, come with you if that feels supportive, and guide you in creating your birth or postpartum plan. I’m a calm, holistic support person who holds the bigger picture with you.

Can my partner be a part of my birth?

Absolutely! I love working with partners. My role isn’t to replace anyone - it’s to help everyone feel confident and connected. I can show your partner ways to support you physically and emotionally while also being a reassuring presence so they can stay grounded and present too.

What if I can't afford to hire a doula?

Please don’t hesitate to reach out. I offer sliding scale options, payment plans, and free support for parents in crisis.
If you feel drawn to working with me, let’s have a conversation. I truly believe everyone deserves support during this sacred time - we’ll figure something out together.
